Launch of BBC Radio Suffolk Carol Concert

By Rachel Sloane

Snape Maltings Concert Hall, Saturday 3 December 2011, 7.30pm

Have you planned where you will enjoy Christmas music this year? And have a great singalong to some favourite carols?

The annual sell-out BBC Suffolk Children in Need Carol Concert is back at Snape Maltings Concert Hall this year. The date is Saturday 3rd December and tickets are now on sale!

Leading the audience carols and playing two sets will be the Suffolk Concert Band, fifty talented musicians led by their MD Roger Jones, who has also agreed to be our Musical Director for the carol concert.

Woodbridge Choral Society will be joining us and their 80-100 singers (!) will help to ensure that the audience carols sound impressive – and they will perform a selection of items for us too.

Musicology – a well respected choir of eight voices will also be singing, as well as the Suffolk Soul Singers – forty great voices with their own seven piece band.

The Saxmundham Primary school took part in SingOut2010 at Snape and we have asked them to bring their 25 best singers to Snape to perform in our concert (and will probably will steal the show!)

It is great that we can give talented Suffolk performers the chance to perform at the world famous concert hall at Snape, and we always include new musical styles and genres in the annual BBC Suffolk Carol Concert. The Suffolk Soul Singers will be a new sound for us this year, but we are also delighted that the wonderful grand piano at Snape will be played by a young up-and-coming solo pianist from Ipswich, Yu Zhou Zhang

As always, the readings will be performed by BBC Suffolk presenters and the compere will be late night presenter, Nick Risby.

Book your tickets now by calling the Aldeburgh Music Box Office on 01728 687110:. £10 for adults, £8 for children.
